Celebration Grant Essay and Video Contest

The Renton Historical Society is excited to celebrate the City of Renton’s 125-year birthday! As part of the celebration, we want to highlight the work of the Renton School District's students. All grade levels are invited to submit their work as part of the contest.
Deadline:
Students must submit work by May 1, 2026 at lunch time. Winners are announced in mid-May.
Elementary educators: Students can submit an essay (250 words or less):
Theme: What does Renton mean to you?
Possible responses might include:
“My favorite place in Renton is…”
“A special memory I have in Renton”
“Why my family likes living in Renton”
“If I could show someone Renton, I would take them to…”
“Renton is special because…”
Schools that participate will receive:
A $500 donation to their PTSA
Top selected entries at each school will receive:
A class pizza party
Recognition at a Renton City Council meeting
Middle and high school educators: Students can submit a short video (up to two minutes) in teams of 1-3 students celebrating what they feel are the hidden gems of Renton.
Videos will be graded on the following criteria:
Story/Message (40 percent)
Creativity (20 percent)
Technical Quality (20 percent)
Connection to Renton (20 percent)
Winning entries will receive:
$1,000 donation to the school's ASB
Gift cards for individual students
Recognition at a Renton City Council meeting
