Just in time to celebrate Renton's 125th Birthday, the Renton Historical Society & Genealogy Center is hosting a photo and short essay contest, open to anyone who has ties to Renton.
What to submit: A picture of an artifact (an interesting piece of Renton) with a brief, 250-word or fewer explanation of why this item is worthy of inclusion in RHS&GC's collection.
What kinds of things should you share with us?
We are looking for items--and stories--that scream Renton.

Adult Category
Grand Prize: Renton staycation at the Hyatt Regency Lake Washington + dining at the Water’s Table ($500 value)
2nd prize: Gift certificate to The Melrose Grill ($200 value)
3rd prize: Gift certificate to the Red House ($150 value)
Honorable Mention: Gift cert for groceries/gas ($50 value)
Youth Category
Grand Prize: Gift certificate to Learning Express @ the Landing ($250 value)
2nd Prize: DJ’s Sport Cards or Color Me Mine pottery painting @ the Landing gift certificate ($100 value)
3rd Prize: Menchie's gift card ($50 value)
Honorable Mention: Gift Card of Choice ($25 value)
Any school receiving at least one (1) student (youth) entry will earn a $100 donation. Any school submitting at least one adult entry will earn a $100 donation as well. (With the potential for up to $200 total per school).
The school credited with the most entries will earn a $500 donation!
Winners will be announced in November, their pictures and essays stored safely in our Time Capsule, to be opened in 25 years at Renton's 150th Birthday Celebration!
The contest will run this summer and fall, beginning on July 4th, 2026, and is open to anyone who has ties to Renton. Contest entries must be received by October 31, 2026.
Prizes will be awarded for the top three entries in our youth and adult divisions.
