Volunteering with RHS

As an RHS volunteer, there is no limit to the impact you can have on your local community. 

By donating just a few hours over the course of the year, you can help us create inclusive, accessible spaces where all members of the Renton Community can connect with their history and with each other. 

Our dedicated staff are available to meet with you in-person or over zoom to learn more about your interests, your availability, and discuss the opportunities open now. We’re focused on creating meaningful experiences that fit your needs, so if you have an idea of ways you can help that aren’t mentioned below, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Landscape Maintenance  - Update: Temporarily on hold. We have had a lot of interest in this one! That gorgeous property we moved into has well-kept planting beds surrounding the building.  Do you like to work with the soil? Do you have a gift for keeping things alive? We'd love to hear from you. Just a sampling of what we'd love help with:

Handy Person  - Our new historic building in downtown Renton is very large and a lot to manage; we need handy people who can fix all the things! We're looking for help with the following:

• Plumbing

• Electrical

• Painting

• Construction

• Security system

Help Move Traveling Exhibits - We are creating new and exciting traveling exhibits to take around town for extended visits.  

• Assist our team by using your truck or large van to transport exhibits to and from locations.

• And/or assist us by doing the heavy lifting--safely, of course. Enjoy a sneak peek of what it takes to create traveling exhibits.

 

Museum General & Professional Help - We have a big job to tackle: organizing our accessions and updating the related records. We have hired an Archival Expert to assist us in this endeavor, and she will need volunteers on occasion.

Help around the office - Now that our move is complete, we are feeling more settled and have fewer general office tasks than before. We are proud to have a robust volunteer list that enjoys organizing the office. That said, once in a while we have extra tasks we need help with.

Computer help & data entry - Update: Temporarily on hold. We have had a lot of interest in this one!  We update databases regularly. Do you love a good spreadsheet and enjoy entering detailed information? Do we have a task for you! Enjoy a sneak peek of what it takes to manage artifacts. Bring your organizational skills and help us grow! 

 

Help at member & public events - Volunteer to help us with public outreach at local Event Tables. Some examples of future events: We are hosting an exhibit at our new Substation for Renton's 125th on September 6th, and a table at the Renton Senior Center's 125th Birthday celebration luncheon. We need assistance with things like running games and educating the public about our mission, how we fit into the History Museum and City of Renton, and our plans for the future.

Join our Board of Directors - Update: On hold. Our board is full now! Our board consists of fifteen volunteers who have committed to attending one board meeting per month, either in person at our location or remotely via Zoom. Meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. This leadership team votes on critical issues with the needs of the general membership in mind, and represents the organization in all settings as a recognized authority of Renton history.
