May ushered in exciting contest results for the Renton Historical Society.

We received over 320 entries for the Renton’s 125th Birthday Essay and Video Contest, and were able to reward 13 elementary schools with $500 donations to either their PTA or ASB for participating. The 35 classrooms that had at least one student participate in the contest all received an $80 gift card for a class pizza party. The 25 winning students all received recognition from the City Council as well as their own gift card to Menchies (elementary) or Starbucks (middle/high school). They also were able to hear some word of encouragement from Steve Bergquist's former Lindbergh High School student, Jacki Delfin (Watson), who inspired this contest from her experience being honored by the Renton City Council for her essay she wrote in third grade to celebrate Renton's 100th birthday. She now works in the Renton Parks and Recreation Department!

Congratulations to all the winners! And a big thank you to those teachers who helped guide the students and thanks also goes out to Council President Pérez for her support in ensuring our students and their families were recognized!
